Making of “Cloak of the Iron Guard” part one

Making of “Cloak of the Iron Guard” part one

I’m starting my first magical cloak, the “Cloak of the Iron Guard“. The first version of the cloak will be solely made in 3d printing, because this is what my consciousness is pursuing at the moment. But I have been preparing myself to use the real materials like real cloth and steel or aluminium for the pauldrons. The important thing is to explore materials and have fun. A lot of work is going to be involved, from design to piece and also enchanting it consumes loads of hours for each piece. I’ve already bought most of the stuff necessary to make most of the things involved when building these magical pieces, but there are some machines and tools that I still need, like a sewing machine and an electric foundry to cast jewelry. But I’m confident that with time and effort everything will fall into place.

As a Magus, to know the meaning of plastic is very important, so here it is for you guys: – “The word plastic derives from the Ancient Greek πλαστικός (plastikos), meaning “capable of being shaped or molded,” which itself comes from πλαστός (plastos), meaning “molded” or “formed.” In modern usage, the word plastic most commonly refers to the solid synthetic products of petrochemical-derived manufacturing.

After some attempts at the right 3d fabric I stopped and started doing what was available and good, because most of the time you won’t get the ideal. The ideal appears like magic when you are ready to make a good piece and the piece wants to be created.

The type of filament I’m using is Universal Filament PLA, which you can get from any store. It’s color nebula purple and gives like a satin texture to the 3d fabric. I still need to make a way to connect the pauldrons to the cape.

Not thinking about enchanting this Cloak, its plastic, I think I should only do it on steel or other materials that are more durable, at least this version, the plastic version, because I think I will make a steel version of the cloak and enchant it for real. Only time will tell.

So after many attempts at printing the correct fabric and with the correct instructions to get them flexible, I got something really amazing, a kind of fabric wish is beautiful, durable, and ultra-flexible made of plastic. I’m really happy that I took time and effort looking into different materials and textures. Some days lost, but now I have something I can really work with.

I noticed that this type of fabric cannot be printed with supports, it needs to be printed on a very clean adhesive base to ensure optimal adhesion on the first layer. It’s also recommended to use some kind of glue for best results. Next time, I’ll try printing some of my failed attempts at printing the dragon scale pattern, since the first time I printed them it was with supports. At least I need an entire week to 3d print all the pieces. Let’s see what the future holds.
