9 Reasons To Hang Your Lavender (And Where)

Reasons to hang lavender

Lavender is one of my favorite herbs

It was actually my first plant as a green witch!

There are 9 major reasons that people hang lavender that are either mundane or ritual

  1. Hang lavender to dry
  2. Hang lavender in the shower
  3. Hang lavender above your door
  4. To scent the room
  5. Deter fleas and moths
  6. Help you sleep
  7. Treating depression, anxiety, and headaches
  8. To add to your cooking
  9. To burn

Lavender is an amazing plant and by far one of my favorite aromas

It is so calming and peaceful, and the color is beautiful

You can use it for so many things too!

It smells good, tastes good, helps you sleep, strong in rituals, deters unwanted guests, and more

There are many reasons to hang your fresh Lavender, and many uses after you take it down

Whatever the goals is, Lavender is a powerful tool to have available to you

Hang lavender to dry

The first major reason people hang their Lavender is to dry them out

Fresh lavender is is amazing, but it goes bad as fast as any fresh plant

When I harvest from my English Lavender, the first thing I do is put all the flowers together to make a littel bouquet

Then I will go to a dark spot (I use my storage shed where I keep all my supplies safe) and I hang those bouquets upside down

I will leave them there in the dark for 1-2 weeks or until they are fully dry

Doing it this way keeps them from molding and prevent a loss in color during drying

Once they are dry, I remove the buds from the stems and add them to my storage jars for later use

Hang lavender in the shower

Hang lavender (fresh or dry) in the shower is so relaxing!

The steam from the shower picks up the scent and benefits of the lavender

Then you breath that infused steam while you are in the bathroom

You can either put the lavender into a mesh bag or hang the bundles

Then tie the lavender to your showerhead

You can leave them there if your bathroom airs out fast, but I usually take them down every time

This prevents the herbs from staying moist in the bathroom and getting moldy

Lavender in the shower is an excellent way to relax before bed if you don’t like baths

And you can always add the lavender to your bath if that is what you prefer!

Hang lavender above your door

It is believed that lavender hung above your door protects your home from evil spirits

Lavender is also very beautiful so this is a create witchy practice that doesn’t make it obvious that you are a witch

I prefer to be fairy discrete at this point in my life so I love having the option to use magick to protect my home using something that I love the look of anyway

Just remember that you are the magick and your tools are a vessel

So when you hang your lavender, make the reason you are doing it very clear in your mind

You can state things like “things that want to harm my family can go no further”

Or you can focus on the protection that the lavender offers

Your energy give the lavender the power to do what you ask it to do

To scent the room

I love the smell of lavender!

It is one of my ultimate favorite scents

When I hang my fresh lavender to dry in my shed, it smalls amazing in there the entire time!

If you hang is fresh or dried in your home, it will spread that wonderful smell throughout your home without needing to use candles or wax melts

Deter fleas and moths

Lavender has a strong scent and is known to repel fleas and moths

As a pet owner, I love repelling fleas!!

You can spread the lavender into your carpets or use it in your dog shampoo

If you want to infuse oil to add to your pet’s coat, add lavender to a jar and fill with a pet safe oil (I use coconut oil)

Simmer gently covered in a pot of water for 3 hours

Turn off the heat and wait until it is cool enough to handle

Tighten your jar and you have lavender infused oil to repel fleas from your pets!

You can add mesh bags of dried lavender to your closet to protect your clothes from moths too

Help you sleep

Lavender is an amazing sleep aid because it is so relaxing

You can use lavender hung around your bed or essential oils sprayed on your pillow

Lavender is also edible so you can add it to teas and food to help with sleep as well

Treating depression, anxiety, and headaches

Smelling lavender is a very relaxing experience

Which is extremely helpful for people that experience anxiety

By hanging it around your house, you are putting your home in a state of relaxation

Which is needed to battle anxiety

Lavender has bee reported to help with depression and minor pain relief (like headaches)

To add to your cooking

The first time I cooked with lavender, I added it to homemade butter

I made a honey and lavender butter and it was amazing!

It made me wonder how things would taste if I cooked with lavender or lavender infused oil more often

I haven’t done a lot yet but I am excited about all the possibiltiy!

To burn

Lavender is a smokeable herb

I haven’t tried it yet, but I plan to make a cannabis and lavender preroll

This is an acellent combination for sleep and relaxation (as long as you choose a relaxing cannabis)

You can also add lavender to sage and other herbs to cleanse your home or your tools before using them in rituals

It is a beautiful multi-use herb that is both powerful and smells amazing!
